As we move into the spring, we hope that your compilations of family records and new insights into your family histories have been productive and that you now have draft manuscripts to share with the group. If you have been working on a manuscript that you would like to have reviewed, please let me know.
We all have different writing skills and experience levels and enjoy helping each other. Whether the issue concerns grammar, comma usage, spelling variations, or those fiendish footnotes, we welcome the opportunity to discuss and debate it.
We are looking for manuscripts to review at the 2025 meetings (June 2, Oct 6, Nov 3, and Dec 1). Your participation is important in holding the meetings and sharing your experience in preparing manuscripts for family, friends, community archives and libraries, and publication.
Join us at the online Zoom meeting to learn how historical context can be incorporated into family history narratives. You will also see how two stories can be told simultaneously, placing the protagonist in the center of the action, adding suspense, injecting drama, and using dialogue to move the story forward.
If you wish to be added to the members‘ list to receive a copy of the draft manuscript by email and join the online meetings, please send your name and email address to SIG co-leader Sean Furniss at Sean.Furniss@gmail.com.
Copies of the 2016-2024 manuscripts, a copy of the current guidelines, and other files that may be of interest can be found in the Informational Guidelines in the DropBox folder at:

The monthly meeting of the Irish SIG
Are you new to genealogy? Feel the need for a refresher on certain topics? Are you trying to figure out what to do with all the names and dates that you have gathered? Are you running into brick walls before you feel like you‘ve even gotten started? We can help! Led by Stephanie Glotfelty, a former co-editor of the FxGS newsletter, the Beginners’ SIG is a chance for novice genealogists to gather, learn, and share some of the challenges they are facing. Meetings are usually held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 7:00-8:30 p.m. In odd-numbered months, we will meet in person at the Annandale FamilySearch Center (3900 Howard Street, Annandale), so bring a laptop if you have one and perhaps a thumb drive if you would like to save documents. If you have any questions, please email beginners@fxgs.org.
