We invite you to join us for the meeting of the FxGS Family History Writing SIG online Zoom meeting on Monday night, April 1st from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Georgene Chastain has prepared a manuscript about her paternal grandparents, Michael and Matilda Check. They both immigrated from Austria-Hungary to Bethlehem, PA, in the late 19th century or early 20th century. This will be part of a compilation of her entire family history. All four of her grandparents immigrated from the same village in Austria-Hungary. The audience for this story is her family, especially her children. But she is also planning to submit the entire family history narrative of her compiled research to the Czecho-Slovak Genealogical Society International (CGSI) for their library, the library at the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the Bethlehem Public Library. We are looking for manuscripts to review at the May 6, June 3, Oct. 7, Nov.4, and Dec. 2 meetings. If you have a manuscript you are writing for your family or publication, members of the Family History Writers’ Special Interest Group would enjoy reading and reviewing your family narratives to help you to make them even better. We are all at different levels of writing skills and experience, and we enjoy helping each other. Whether questions of grammar, comma usage, spelling variations, or those fiendish footnotes, we welcome the opportunity to discuss and debate the issues. If you wish to be added to the members‘ list to receive a copy of the draft manuscript by email and join the online meetings, please send your name and email address to SIG co-leader Sean Furniss at Sean.Furniss@gmail.com. Join us at the online Zoom meeting and see how historical context can be incorporated into family history narratives. See how two stories can be told at once, placing the protagonist in the center of the action, adding suspense, injecting drama, and using dialogue to move the story forward.
