The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution welcome FxGS members on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, for a 1-hour Docent tour and then orientation to the DAR Library. If you are interested, please send an email to Lea Edwards at Lea-edwards@mail.com. The group size is limited to 25 so please register soon!
Here’s how it works:
• Meet at the DAR building (entrance on D Street between 17th and 18th) by 10:00 am.
• Cost: $5 per person for the Docent tour. Lea will collect when you arrive. Please bring cash.
• We have the Docent tour and Library orientation during the morning.
• Bring your lunch if you plan to stay into the afternoon (there’s a nice lunchroom with a few vending machines for water and beverages).
• Those who want to continue viewing the museum, period rooms, and other exhibits can do that on their own. Those who want to do genealogy research in the library can stay there. In both cases, you leave when you and your carpool want to start back.
Suggestions for transportation:
• Metro to Farragut West and walk or taxi (5-6 blocks) toward Constitution Ave.
• Have someone drop you off and take the metro home.
• The street parking (metered) is very iffy and we never know when it will be blocked off.
• Reserve a parking space at a Lot in the area, using the SpotHero app.
• If you can drive and take a couple people with you, please let Lea know. She will try to connect individuals with drivers as needed.
When you email Lea to join the Field Trip, she can answer questions about researching at the DAR Library. She’ll also give you a link to an orientation video for the DAR’s Genealogical Research System (GRS), a public database.
