Genealogy with a Purpose: How Forensic Genealogy is Being Used to Solve Our Nation’s Silent Mass Disaster.

In this webinar, Shannon will give a brief overview of the growing field of forensic genealogy. She will talk about how forensic genealogy is being used to solve unclaimed and missing person cases. Those interested in learning more about the topic or interested in getting involved should attend.


Shannon Wood Byers is the founder and CEO of NOKfinders, an organization that specializes in finding next of kin when a person dies. NOKfinders works with medical examiners, funeral homes and other agencies. She has a Certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University and has training in forensic genealogy from SLIG (Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy) Academy and GRIP (Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh). She holds an MS and MBA from the University of Maine and is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists where she volunteers on their Professional Development Committee and serves as the VP of the Forensic Special Interest Group.
