Family History Writing Special Interest Group

SIG Co-Leaders: Lee James Irwin, Sean Furniss, Fran Millhouser
Email: fhwritingsig@fxgs.org

Purpose: Are you done with the research? Have you begun to write? Come to the Writer’s SIG! Learn to create non-fiction genealogic narratives so compelling that your family will crave to read them. Learn to incorporate historical context, tell two stories simultaneously, place your protagonist in the center of the action, add suspense, inject drama, and use dialogue to move your story forward. Benefit from the critical review of your peers. Visit us and check it out.

Meetings: Our meetings are open to all — you do not have to be a member of the Fairfax Genealogical Society to attend. Currently, all Family History Writing SIG meetings are Zoom meetings open to all individuals included in the SIG email list. To be added to the SIG email list send a note to SIG co-leader Sean Furniss at fhwritingsig@fxgs.org

Our SIG members are NOT currently included in the FxGS SIG list. For privacy, all correspondence with our SIG members is done using bcc. Their names are not generally available to others.

Members who wish to have a manuscript reviewed can contact the SIG group co-leader Sean Furniss at fhwritingsig@fxgs.org for a proposed manuscript review meeting date.

Program Schedule: Generally our topics are driven by the interests of the group members. Topics range from open discussion to presentations by regular group members and invited outside speakers. The meeting schedule and current topics for the 2023-2024 year are below:
