German Genealogy Special Interest Group

SIG Leader: Mark Lazaroff
Email: germansig@fxgs.org

Purpose: The mission of the German Genealogy Special Interest Group (SIG) is to promote historical and genealogical research into the lineage and lives of our German-speaking ancestors. Our area of interest covers all German-speaking countries in Europe, both in today’s Germany and areas formerly part of the 1871 German Empire. We emphasize how to track your German-speaking immigrant ancestor backward through American sources and repositories as well as in European archives. We encourage interactive discussion, especially the sharing of genealogy research problems and success stories.

Meetings: Our meetings are open to all — you do not have to be a member of the Fairfax Genealogical Society to attend. The group meets once a month from September through May. There are no meetings over the summer months. We generally meet on the 3rd Monday of the month (except when a Federal Holiday occurs on Monday, then we meet the next day — Tuesday — of that month). Meetings are normally held at the Fairfax County Pohick Regional Library, 6450 Sydenstricker Rd, Burke, VA. from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The September meeting will be at the Main Fairfax Library. Participants range from beginners to experienced experts.
