Membership Benefits

Membership Categories and Dues

  • Individual Membership ($35.00 Annual Dues).
  • 3-Year Individual Membership ($100.00 Dues for 3 years).
  • Family Membership ($15.00 per additional member for a 1 year membership, $40.00 per additional member for a 3 year membership). There may be up to five additional family members. Family members must be associated with an individual member.
  • Lifetime Membership ($520 for an individual). The fee for additional family members for lifetime membership is $250 each.
  • Institutions should sign up for an institutional membership.

Monthly Meetings

Education Meetings are usually held on the third Thursday of the month (September through May, except December). These are normally virtual meetings (via Zoom).

Member Meetings are usually held on the  third Saturday of the month (September through May, except December). These are normally hybrid meetings, both in person or via Zoom.

Please visit the Event Calendar on our website at www.fxgs.org for specific times, dates, locations and topics. Zoom attendance requires registration.  Attendance is free to all.


Our classes and program meetings are designed to educate researchers of all levels in genealogical problem-solving and research techniques, historical information, and social customs. Handouts and the recordings (typically posted for a year) are a member benefit.


Conferences

We hold conferences, such as the Fall Fair and the Spring Seminar . These conferences feature nationally known speakers.


Special Interest Groups

Small focus groups meet regularly to concentrate on a specific area of genealogical interest. They currently include:

  • African American Genealogy
  • Beginning Genealogy
  • Family History Writing
  • Genetic Genealogy
  • German Genealogy
  • Irish Genealogy
  • Mid-Atlantic Genealogy
  • New England Genealogy

Newsletters

Members receive the award-winning FxGS newsletter, by email, usually five times a year.

Membership Helps Support


Preservation

The FxGS Records Committee coordinates the preservation of Fairfax County records with the City of Fairfax Regional Library’s Virginia Room librarian.


Publications

The FxGS Publications Committee prepares selected records for publication, and has published an acclaimed six - volume set, Fairfax County, Virginia Gravestones.


The Virginia Room

The Virginia Room book fund, used to purchase genealogical books for use by members and other researchers.
