About this event
We invite you to join us for the meeting of the FxGS Family History Writing SIG online Zoom meeting on Monday night, May 6th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Xochi (pronounced Sochi) Kuo has prepared three manuscripts about her Chinese-American family. The audience for these stories is her family, and they were written especially for children. One of the manuscripts includes both illustrations and a narrative text. The other two manuscripts are currently only text, with graphics to be added later. When completed, each story will include both text and illustrations.
If you have young children or grandchildren, their comments would be welcome. A short questionnaire that could be used to record comments is available if they wish to participate.
Constructive criticism is always welcomed. We look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions. You can send copies of your written review notes to Xochi at gardenhousebooks@gmail.com.
We are looking for manuscripts to review at the 2024 meetings on Nov 4 and Dec 2. Your participation is important in holding the meetings and sharing your experience in preparing manuscripts for family, friends, community archives and libraries, and publication.
We are all at different levels of writing skills and experience, and we enjoy helping each other. Whether questions of grammar, comma usage, spelling variations, or those fiendish footnotes, we welcome the opportunity to discuss and debate the issues.
If you wish to be added to the members' list to receive a copy of the draft manuscript by email and join the online meetings, please send your name and email address to SIG co-leader Sean Furniss at Sean.Furniss@gmail.com.
Join us at the online Zoom meeting and see how historical context can be incorporated into family history narratives. See how two stories can be told at once, placing the protagonist in the center of the action, adding suspense, injecting drama, and using dialogue to move the story forward.
