About this event
Speaker: Shellie Karol-Chik
Since the earliest European settlements in New England, diseases and epidemics were a regular part of colonial life. Join Shellie Karol-Chik as she explores the types of diseases affecting colonists, the timeline of New England’s early epidemics, and how colonists viewed and reacted to this unwelcome part of their lives. The event will also review a case study of an outbreak affecting Plymouth Colony in 1747 and provide tips on how to identify outbreaks in your own genealogical and historical research.
Shellie Karol-Chik has been doing genealogical research for over 35 years. She was a 5-year president of the Old Bridgewater Historical society in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and now works on the Silver Books project for the Mayflower Society in Plymouth. She has completed the genealogical certificate program from Boston University and is a graduate of ProGen. She specializes in research in New York and New England. She resides in Bridgewater with her husband of 33 years, who happily pretends to be interested in her historical and genealogical discoveries.
