About this event
This session will review German Military Records that are available at NARA II and in German Archives. I plan to discuss the myth that your ancestor came to America to avoid the draft for certain time periods. We will examine the different changes in Draft regulations and the tie-in to conflicts of the time, examining the various wars /conflicts in which they may have had to fight in that drove them to leave.
I will discuss what is available at NARA II in their holdings for RG 256, Capture Records, to include A3356, and German Armed Forces Personnel Files. 1935-1945. This record group contains the records covering all officer ranks of the German army and officers who transferred to the army from other branches of the Wehrmacht, such as the Luftwaffe. I will show how I used the record for my book in regards to Obstlt. Hochbaum.
Please be advised that the Fairfax County Libraries have changed their operating hours. For Monday, they now open at 1 PM.
