Leaders and Team Members Needed

FxGS needs volunteers for the following leadership and support roles.

Assistant for Membership: The Membership Team, addresses potential member questions, and helps members join or renew. The membership team lead needs a backup who can fill in if the team leader is away.  Duties include: pick up mail from the PO Box about every 10 days.  Open and sort the mail.  Forward checks, donations to Treasurer, all other mail to Membership VP. Answer any membership queries that come in. For more information contact Roy at membership@fxgs.org, or vpmembership@fxgs.org

Special Events Team Lead: This team advertises and organizes the Spring and Fall Seminars, in coordination with the Education Team. Seminars usually consist of three in person presentations on a Saturday. The team publicizes the seminars, sets up the registration and collection of fees, and orders the lunch for those interested. Several volunteers are still available to help the SE Team, but we need a new leader. For more information please contact vpprograms@fxgs.org

Mid Atlantic Special Interest Group (SIG) Team Lead: Coordinates the schedule and program for the Mid-Atlantic SIG and stays connected with FxGS Board for sharing / publicity needs. This SIG covers the states of New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania, as well as the District of Columbia and New York City. Temporarily the SIG covers Virginia and West Virginia. For more information, please contact Janet Werner at externalrelations@fxgs.org.

Irish Special Interest Group (SIG) Team Lead: Coordinates the schedule and program for the Irish SIG and stays connected with FxGS Board for sharing / publicity needs. The mission of the Irish SIG is to promote research among members who have Irish ancestry or are interested in Irish ancestry. For more information, please contact Janet Werner at externalrelations@fxgs.org.

Family History Writing SIG Team Lead: Coordinates meetings of the Writing SIG and the process of reviewing member manuscripts for family or publication. Most meetings are the first Monday evening of the month. If interested, please contact Sean Furniss at Sean.Furniss@gmail.com .

Education Team: New members needed! This team organizes the monthly programs, both by Zoom and in person. Based on membership survey inputs and priorities, the team puts out a bid for speaker proposals (usually January), then selects speakers and establishes agreements for the programs. We create the meeting schedule for the year and manage or facilitate each program. For more information contact vpprograms@fxgs.org

Publicity Team: New members are needed to work with the VP Membership & Communications to advertise information about FxGS programs and special events. The team coordinates all publicity and outreach to the genealogy community. They maintain a list of DC/MD/VA organizations whose members may be interested in genealogy. They oversee the distribution of fliers and other communications as needed.  If interested, please contact vpmembership@fxgs.org or president@fxgs.org.

Research Team: FxGS needs to reestablish a Research Team, which builds genealogy and history resource information for Fairfax County. Members would be able to answer inquiries from both members and nonmembers and refer them to organizations that may have research information for a genealogy project. The Team may also manage special research projects for FxGS. If interested, please contact president@fxgs.org.

Newsletter Team: If you enjoy writing and editing, and/or if you have ability to format print and graphics, please consider joining the Newsletter Team. The FxGS Newsletter is published 5 times during the year. Most articles are written by members and team leads and submitted to the Newsletter Team for editing and compiling the newsletter. This is a great way to learn about the wide range of activities, projects, and genealogy community connections of our organization. If interested, please contact newsletter@fxgs.org .

Hospitality Team: If you are a regular participant in the FxGS Saturday morning in person programs at the Dunn Loring Fire Station, please consider helping the Hospitality Team. The team needs help with setting up (and take down) coffee and morning snacks, usually 30 minutes before the program starts as well as bringing baked items and/or fruit. We also need greeters.  If you can be part of the team, please contact Fran Millhouser at bfm1010@cox.net or vpmembership@fxgs.org .

Please consider joining a FxGS team. It's lots of fun and you get to know genealogy colleagues. Besides the email addresses above, always feel free to contact President Art Buck at president@fxgs.org.
